Derek is a psychotherapist with 20 years experience. He works with individuals and couples, and sees his work as assisting people to grow towards a healthy and fulfilling sense of personhood and self-in-relationships. He came into this work in his late twenties after training and working in economics. Influences on his work include a training in psychodynamic psychotherapy (with an emphasis on object relations and self-psychology), a Master's degree in psychology with an emphasis on cognitive-behavioural psychology, and his beginnings in Life-Line counselling with and emphasis on person centred listening.
Derek's current practice is predominantly psychotherapy, but also includes a number of other aspects: supervision; teaching; personality profiling and psychometrics; the establishment of community housing in which he now primarily takes a financial management role; and being a trustee of two trusts involved with community mental health.

His current fee for psychotherapy is between $90 and $130, with some further room for negotiation at the lower end of this scale.
Derek is married to Margaret, is the father of three teenage sons, and enjoys mountain biking and exercising the family's delightful golden retriever to keep fit and to help clear his head!
