Karen Thompson, Diploma of Counselling, MNZAC

I am originally from the U.K. and have raised a large family in N.Z. My life experience and training enable me to relate empathically and non-judgementally to a wide range of people and issues. These include (but are not limited to) depression and anxiety, grief and loss, parenting and step-parenting issues, dysfunctional relationships, family of origin issues that influence todays behaviour, and self-esteem issues.

I am passionate about journeying with people to promote awareness, healing and wholeness thus creating more supportive ways of being. Each person is unique and how we live our lives is a  blend of our history, social setting, culture, beliefs and interpretations of the events we experience. How we make sense of these things influences how we view ourselves and conduct our lives. My desire is to support you to understand the present, heal the past and empower the future.

I trained in 'Person-Centred' counselling at Vision College and compliment this with other models depending on the client's specific needs. Maintaining respect for the client's age, ethnicity, spirituality, gender and sexuality are a priority to me. In my spare time i like to enjoy nature, family time, writing and dancing.
