I am a mid-life person working as a psychotherapist at Arahura. My career began as a primary and pre-school teacher, and I have remained committed to children and issues of parenting. For several years I was a housewife, active in the community, church, and local schools. I began training at Arahura when it first opened, and it was special to be part of its early beginnings. This has been a stimulating second career for me. In the counselling and psychotherapy work that I have done with many people over the years, I have become especially interested in the healing journey of the survivors of childhood sexual abuse. I am registered with ACC who fund this work. Each winter a local church pastor and I lead a church-based recovery group for sexual abuse survivors.
I am one of the tutors, involved in teaching, and in leading small groups, in our training programme, the Certificate in Basic Integrative Counselling Skills and Personal Growth, which runs each year on Friday mornings. I also teach, along with some colleagues, a Bible College course, Pastoral Skills in Life's Crises, which is offered every second year. Like the certificate programme, it has a strong emphasis on both practial skills and personal work.
I sew, and play tennis, and I am interested in theatre and the visual arts. We have two adult children, and two little grandchildren, who sadly live in North America.
